The colors and morning chills of autumn often cause us to reflect on pleasant memories of summer.  At BGO, our reflections include the success of our 11th Annual Golf Open!

Burg Golf extends its deepest appreciation for your participation in this year’s 11th Open.  Your generosity as sponsors, contributors, and golfers will allow Share the Spirit Program in St. Cloud and Sponsor a Family Program in the Twin Cities to again provide assistance to children in need and their families.

With the current crisis in our economy, Share the Spirit and Sponsor a Family expect the need to be significantly greater this year.

  

It is heartening to know that we have been able to say each year, “your generosity has exceeded our expectations,” which increases what can be provided to children and their families at the holidays and during the coming year.  This year our donation will amount to over $20,000 bringing our total contribution over the past eleven years to $90,000.  Our donations are given to Catholic Charities and Lutheran Services who provide for children in need and their families without question or regard to religious affiliation.

Please be on the lookout for our newsletter early in 2009.  It will recap this year’s event including details on what your generosity has helped to provide and tell you about our plans for 2009.

Next year’s BGO date is July 18th (the third Saturday of July).  For those of you true long-range planners and those who want an easy way to remember the date, Burg Golf Open is always held on the third Saturday of July.

About BGO

The Burg Golf Open is an annual charity golf tournament benefitting the Saint Cloud Share the Spirit Holiday Program and the Twin Cities' Sponsor a Family Program. During the Holiday Season, this program provides holiday gifts and food for needy families, as well as other needed items i.e. furniture, clothing, and food. It all started in 1998 when the Burg family held a family golf outing. In 2001, BGO decided their tournament would be a great way to give back to the community and transitioned the BGO to a charity golf tournament. From those humble beginnings of 15 family members, the tournament has grown to over 150 golfers. This past year we were able to contribute $20,000 for the kids and families benefiting from the programs. To date, BGO has donated over $90,000, a tribute to the gophers, sponsors, donators, and volunteers involved with BGO. Just a few years ago, BGO was able to save the St. Cloud's Share the Spirit Holiday Program which had been slated for cancellation due to lack of funds.. Since the start, the theme that resonates around the tournament is: It's for the Kids!
